Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV has been delayed from its original September 17 release date to December 3, 2026, developer KING Art Games and publisher Deep Silver announced in a video update. Game director Jan Theysen delivered the news directly, explaining that additional community playtest feedback made the extra development time worthwhile.
The move pulls the highly anticipated real-time strategy title out of one of the most crowded release windows in recent memory. September 2026 was already stacked with major launches including Control Resonant, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Marvel’s Wolverine, and Silent Hill: Townfall. A December slot gives Dawn of War IV a clearer run-up to launch and positions it squarely in the holiday shopping season.
Theysen emphasized that the delay is not a response to a single critical issue but rather a chance to act on accumulated feedback from multiple public playtests. The additional months will go toward performance optimization, bug fixing, and further gameplay polish. For a franchise still recovering from the divisive reception of Dawn of War III, that extra attention to quality could make a significant difference.
Commander Edition pre-order customers will still receive three days of early access, now beginning November 30 instead of the originally planned date. An updated Year One roadmap reflecting the revised launch timing has also been shared, with post-launch content release dates to follow at a later time.
Dawn of War IV returns players to the planet Kronus, pitting the Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus against each other in large-scale battles with classic base building and resource management. The game supports multiplayer ranging from 1v1 to 3v3 and brings back the fan-favorite Last Stand survival mode. The Adeptus Mechanicus faction makes its Dawn of War series debut in this installment.
The game remains a PC exclusive via Steam. Players can currently pre-order at a 10% discount through the Steam store page, with the standard and Commander Edition both available ahead of the new December launch.
For Steam players watching the crowded September calendar, the delay means Dawn of War IV avoids getting lost among the fall’s biggest releases and lands right in the thick of holiday game-shopping season instead.
