Warframe’s Massive Tau System Update Lands This December

Digital Extremes has officially confirmed the next great leap for Warframe. In an announcement on October 30, 2026, the studio revealed that the Tau System update will arrive this December, describing it as the most expansive update the studio has ever produced. Tenno who have long wondered what lies beyond the Origin System now have a destination: a brand-new star system filled with fresh dangers and mysteries.

According to the official announcement on Steam, the December update opens the Tau Star Chart with two striking new locations. The first is Fornax, a mob-run ring city where crime syndicates hold sway. The second is Perita, a stretch of collapsed desert badlands that hides its own harsh secrets. Digital Extremes has confirmed that more Tau regions are planned for future updates, making the December launch the opening chapter of a longer journey rather than a single destination.

The update also expands the Warframe roster in dramatic fashion. Brysko arrives as Warframe’s 67th Warframe, a noir-inspired detective brought to life with the voice of Matt Mercer. Brysko also introduces the game’s first Chimera Skin customization, letting players switch the Warframe’s appearance between classic Warframe aspects and Sentient-inspired aspects — a first for the game’s cosmetic options.

Taken together, these additions reinforce the scale the studio is aiming for with the Tau System. A new star chart, a new city, new badlands, and a new Warframe with an entirely new kind of customization all land in the same December update, with more regions already promised beyond it. Detective-themed gameplay, urban intrigue in Fornax, and the desolate expanses of Perita promise a very different flavor of mission design from the Origin System players have patrolled for years.

Warframe is available now as a free-to-play title on Steam, where the Tau System update is scheduled to arrive this December.

Dan will forgive technical roughness when the underlying experience is exceptional. He will forgive almost anything for a brilliant combat system—but never a tutorial that refuses to stop talking.
