EVERSPACE 2 Final Update Brings Steam Deck Verification and Console Optimization

EVERSPACE 2 Final Technical Update - Steam Deck Verified

ROCKFISH Games has rolled out the final technical update for EVERSPACE 2, bringing the eight-year development journey of its open-world space action RPG to a close. The free update, released September 1, adds Steam Deck and Steam Machine Verified status alongside platform-wide optimizations and community-requested fixes.

The update builds on work done for the recently launched Nintendo Switch 2 version. ROCKFISH leveraged the handheld porting process to refine performance across all versions, with the most noticeable improvements landing on Xbox Series S. New UI adjustments specifically target Steam Deck’s smaller display, ensuring readable menus and HUD elements that meet Valve’s verification standards.

“This technical update caps off an eight-year journey with EVERSPACE 2,” said ROCKFISH Games CEO and Co-Founder Michael Schade. “Our vision for an open world spaceship action RPG began alongside the founding of our studio more than a decade ago and was realized in this ambitious project.”

Schade confirmed that barring occasional hotfixes and platform-specific tweaks, this marks the last substantive update for EVERSPACE 2. The team is now turning its attention to a new project within the EVERSPACE universe, though details remain under wraps. ROCKFISH recently received an eight-million-euro grant from the German government to develop a new title in the franchise, suggesting the studio’s space-faring ambitions are far from finished.

The announcement comes during a special Steam sale offering discounts across the entire EVERSPACE catalogue. EVERSPACE 2 itself is currently marked down 80 percent, making it an ideal entry point for players who have been waiting to explore the game’s handcrafted star systems, loot-driven combat, and 30-hour campaign.

Since its original launch, EVERSPACE 2 has expanded significantly through two major DLC packs. The final expansion, Wrath of the Ancients, recently won Best Audio Design at the Deutscher Computerspielpreis, Germany’s national video game awards. The game is fully voiced in English and German and localized in thirteen languages.

For Steam Deck owners who have been holding out, Verified status means the game now passes Valve’s compatibility checks for controls, display, and performance. Combined with the broader optimization pass, EVERSPACE 2 should run more smoothly on a wide range of hardware than ever before — a fitting send-off for one of the more ambitious space shooters of recent years.

EVERSPACE 2 is available on Steam with the final update now live.
