Flyway Games has pulled back the curtain on a fresh gameplay trailer for Waltz and Jam, its upcoming hand-drawn action-adventure platformer. The new footage debuted during the Game Devs of Color Expo Direct on September 25, offering the most detailed look yet at the game’s whimsical afterlife world and its inventive mechanics.
In Waltz and Jam, players take on the role of Waltz, a pure-hearted ghost, and his loyal spirit puppy, Jam. Together they navigate seven distinct realms inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins, solving environmental puzzles, battling strange creatures, and uncovering hidden secrets along the way. Each realm culminates in a formidable boss encounter that puts the duo’s combined abilities to the test.
Jam is far more than a cute companion. As the pair progress through the journey, the shape-shifting puppy develops new abilities — from bouncing as a Jam Water Ball to soaring on a Jam Trampoline — that open new paths and help overcome obstacles that would be impossible alone. Players will also discover toys left behind by a legendary Toy Artisan, each granting unique powers for puzzle-solving and combat encounters.
The game features a distinctive hand-drawn visual style that blends spooky charm with playful humor, giving each of the Seven Deadly Sins its own distinct personality and mood. From a chaotic restaurant clattering with activity to a castle tangled in light and shadow, and a desert that rolls on like an endless sea, every realm is designed to feel like a page from a hand-painted storybook. Hidden secrets and surprises are tucked into every corner, rewarding players who explore thoroughly.
Boss battles serve as the culmination of each realm’s trial. Players must read enemy attack patterns, find openings, and cleverly combine toys, Jam’s transformations, and even the environment itself to turn the tide. Conquering each colossal encounter earns a stamp on Waltz and Jam’s ticket, bringing them one step closer to the mysterious Uptown.
