Rust’s Halloween 2026 event is live until November 5

Facepunch Studios has switched on Rust’s yearly Halloween 2026 event, bringing monsters, candy and cultist mischief back to the island. The event went live on October 23, 2026, and it will run until November 5, giving survivors close to two weeks to take part.

The centerpiece is the Candy Hunt. Roughly every two in-game days, players get three minutes to grab as much candy as they can carry. The top three collectors on the podium earn special loot bags, and both the candy and the bags can be opened for rewards that range from scrap all the way up to an M249. Missing the podium is no disaster either — the candy you collect can still be upgraded for better loot.

Body parts collected from the event have a darker use this year. Slay the scarecrows and mummies roaming the map, gather a head, torso and legs, then craft a Frankenstein’s table and load your grisly haul into it. The table awakens a pet monster you can command directly — it follows you across the map, defends you when attacked and helps bring down the targets you choose.

Mystery has also arrived with the cultist rifts. Portals have opened in random locations across the island, said to be the work of cultists or a Cobalt experiment code-named R.U.I.N gone horribly wrong. Only a few players who stepped through have made it back, and server owners can tune the number of portals with the halloweendungeon.population convar.

Beyond the event itself, Facepunch has opened a spooky collection of Limited store items, including the Cultist Tile, Manor Ceiling and Derelict Wood wallpapers, a Skull Wall Lamp skin for the Tuna Can Lamp and an inflatable Alien Costume in three variations, bundled together with a Halloween Wreath and String Lights in the Spooky Decor Bundle. Seasonal favourites also return, from the Dracula Mask and Cape to the Wooden Stake and Hockey Facemask.

All of it lands in Rust on Steam (app 252490), where Facepunch notes the survival game is now in its 13th year of continued expansion, with over 395 content updates shipped and a guaranteed content patch every month, including regular seasonal events like this one.

Dan Kowalski reviews games by listening to what they do before believing what they promise. He cares about responsive combat, purposeful sound design, satisfying movement, and whether a game respects the player’s time. Dan will forgive technical roughness when the underlying experience is exceptional. He will forgive almost anything for a brilliant combat system—but never a tutorial that refuses to stop talking.
