PEAK Receives Its Final Major Update With New Biomes and a Secret Summit

PEAK, the co-op climbing game from Landfall and Aggro Crab, has received its final major content update. The appropriately named “Final Ascent” arrives with two new biomes, fresh items, and a secret ending that caps off the island’s central mountain climb.

The headline additions are Gloom and The Citadel, two variant biomes that dramatically change the feel of later climbs. Gloom envelops players in thick fog with towering trees, ringing bells, and jagged spikes jutting from the terrain. The Citadel takes a different approach, presenting a castle-like gauntlet full of swinging spiked balls, hidden arrow traps, and floors where spears burst upward on a timer. Both biomes appear in the later stretches of the mountain, so reaching them requires surviving everything the island throws at you first.

Ascent 8, the game’s ninth and final climb, has also been added but Team PEAK has kept its contents deliberately mysterious. The developers say players who reach it will discover what awaits on their own, which fits the tone of a game that has always rewarded persistence and teamwork with surprise.

The update rounds out with a handful of new items. Clown luggage brings a collection of goofy gear including a lollipop, cannon, and balloon bunch. A jetpack does exactly what you would expect, a warp fungus sends objects flying in unpredictable directions when thrown, and a glider adds a Breath of the Wild-style descent mechanic. Scattered across the island are new statues that hint at a connection to the Scoutmaster’s original lost troop, giving lore enthusiasts something to chase beyond the summit.

Team PEAK has been transparent about why this is the last major update. In their announcement, the studio explained that PEAK was never intended to be a live-service game. They set out to ship a finished experience and treated major updates as bonus content on top of that foundation. The game’s success led to more development time than originally planned, but the team wants to avoid the bloat that comes with endlessly adding features. The Final Ascent is their way of drawing a clean line under what they consider a complete game.

For Steam players, this is a chance to revisit PEAK with fresh content before the island settles into its final form. Whether you climbed it at launch or bounced off early, the new biomes and items give reason to gather a group and head back up one more time.

PEAK is available on Steam. The Final Ascent update is live now.
