Dice of Kalma Rolls Out Massive Dicebound Destiny 2.0 Update

Kalma, the skeletal guardian of the Underworld, holds dice above a broadsword in a dark dungeon

Pepperbox Studios has shipped the biggest update yet for its dark deckbuilding roguelike Dice of Kalma. Dubbed “Dicebound Destiny” 2.0, the free patch overhauls how players reroll their dice and layers in a wealth of new content across the board. The update is free for all players on every platform.

The headline feature is a new gameplay system called Reroll Abilities. Players pick one of eleven abilities — Classic, Chaotic, Twin, Weighed, Cogwheel, Foretold, Clairvoyant, Sorting, Twisted, Stone, and Shackled — before each run. Each one gives something back while taking something away, nudging players toward different strategies. Abilities unlock through a new meta progression system, and skulls that clash with the chosen ability are held back until players exhaust their other options.

The update also adds two new skulls — Samurai and Mauled — alongside reworks for the Candle, Gamer, Choked, and Drinking skulls, each with refined activation conditions. Twelve reroll-ability achievements now come with cosmetic rewards, and the full patch notes list a long tail of interface tweaks, animation improvements, and bugfixes, from a leaderboard button on the daily mode end screen to smoother skull activation animations and a fresh sound effect. Localizations for the second chance system now cover all supported languages.

Perhaps the most welcome addition for long-time players is time-limited seasonal events. Each event awards a special outfit for playing while it runs, and events return every year, so nothing is permanently missable. The first event is set to celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary, one year on from its November 2025 Steam debut. Finnish studio Pepperbox Studios reports over 1 million downloads across Steam, iOS, and Android to date, with more updates planned for the future.

Dice of Kalma is available now on Steam for $9.99 USD, and it is officially Steam Deck Verified, with versions also on the App Store and Google Play.

She covers roguelikes, narrative experiments, striking art direction, and games willing to risk failure in pursuit of something original. Familiar ideas do not bother her, but safe execution does. If a game is beautiful, strange, and slightly impossible to explain, Lena is already interested.
