Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has finally arrived on Steam, marking the first time Hideo Kojima’s celebrated PlayStation 3 exclusive has been available on PC. The Master Collection Version launched on August 27, 2026, bringing Solid Snake’s final mission to a whole new audience after nearly two decades of console exclusivity.
The game wraps up the saga that began with the original Metal Gear on MSX2 in 1987, following an aged Solid Snake as he infiltrates war-torn locations across the globe to stop Liquid Ocelot’s insurrection. Set in a world where private military companies have turned warfare into a global industry, the story weaves together decades of lore into a sweeping finale that still resonates with fans today.
For Steam players, this release is significant for several reasons. The Master Collection Version includes the full base game along with digital extras such as the Metal Gear Solid 4 Database, the Screenplay Book, and the Master Book that details the game’s characters and story. Players who already own Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 on the same account will also unlock a Gold Camouflage bonus item in-game.
The port arrives at a time when Konami has been steadily expanding its Metal Gear presence on PC. Following the successful release of the Master Collection Vol. 1, which bundled the earlier numbered entries, MGS4 completes the mainline saga on Steam. The game has been listed at $29.99 USD with no launch discount, and it requires Windows 10 or later, a 64-bit processor, and a graphics card with at least 4GB of VRAM.
Reception among the Steam community has been closely watched, as the original PS3 version was long considered one of the most technically demanding games of its generation. The Master Collection Version aims to deliver a faithful experience while making the necessary adjustments for modern PC hardware. Players can expect the same cinematic storytelling, series-defining cutscenes, and the OctoCamo stealth system that defined the 2008 original.
Whether you are a long-time series veteran catching up on the story before future Metal Gear projects or a newcomer experiencing Snake’s farewell for the first time, the Steam release offers the most accessible way to play one of the most ambitious games in the franchise’s history.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Master Collection Version is available now on Steam for $29.99 USD.
