Beat Saber is getting what Beat Games is calling its biggest update since the rhythm game left early access in 2019. The announcement, made at Meta Connect 2026 on September 23, reveals a sweeping overhaul arriving in Spring 2027 across Meta VR Glasses, Meta Quest, and Steam.
At the center of the update is Flux, an entirely new single-player mode that ditches the signature lightsabers in favor of bare-hand combat. Using high-fidelity hand tracking, players punch, prod, and slap their way through notes without touching a controller. A new Flux Tether mechanic channels energy between your palms to slice through notes in time with the beat, while side targets demand matching-hand punches. Destroying notes builds Jolt energy, and squeezing your fists at the right moment triggers bonus scores for those who time it perfectly.
Flux will launch with 35 songs drawn from Beat Saber’s existing Original Soundtracks, Extras, and Anniversary packs, plus new original compositions from Jaroslav Beck and Zakka G. The tracklist includes licensed material from artists like Lindsey Stirling, DragonForce, Teminite, Haywyre, Camellia, and Boom Kitty. The mode is playable with Touch Plus controllers, but it’s designed as a showcase for the game’s new universal hand-tracking support, which will also work in the traditional saber modes for players who prefer the classic experience.
The update also refreshes Beat Saber’s campaign with new missions, added checkpoints, and what Beat Games describes as a light narrative element. For the first time, a progression system will let players unlock cosmetic rewards for sabers, beats, and bombs — a feature the seven-year-old game has never had. A new logo redesign accompanies the overhaul, marking the first time the branding has changed since the game’s original launch.
Beat Saber remains one of the most-played VR games on Steam, regularly appearing in the platform’s best-of-year charts despite releasing in 2019. The game benefits from a healthy modding community and regular song additions that have kept its library fresh. The Spring 2027 update will be free for all owners, and the game is currently available for $14.99 USD on Steam.

She covers roguelikes, narrative experiments, striking art direction, and games willing to risk failure in pursuit of something original. Familiar ideas do not bother her, but safe execution does. If a game is beautiful, strange, and slightly impossible to explain, Lena is already interested.
