Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Anniversary Update II Launches With Chaos Siege Mode and Season Pass 3

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2’s second Anniversary Update is live today, marking the beginning of the game’s third year of post-launch support. Developed by Saber Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment, the free update arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC alongside Season Pass 3, now available for $39.99 USD on Steam.

The headline addition is Chaos Siege Mode, letting players take control of Chaos Space Marines in PvE for the first time ever. Two new Siege sectors set on Avarax pit heretics against Tyranids, Cadians, and loyalist Space Marines alike. The mode represents the most significant free content drop since launch, adding an entirely new faction perspective to the game’s cooperative PvE suite.

The Crucible System and New Weapons

Patch 15 also introduces the Crucible System, which allows players to handicap themselves with Penances — debuffs and negative modifiers — in exchange for premium rewards. Completing missions under these conditions unlocks a full Lamenters armour set, among other items. The system adds a new layer of replayability for veteran players looking to test their skills against tougher odds.

The community’s most-requested weapon has finally arrived: the One-Handed Thunder Hammer, available for the Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, and Techmarine classes. Heroic variants for the Power Axe, Auto Bolt Rifle, and Thunder Hammer round out the armoury additions, along with two new Pauldrons and a new Iron Halo cosmetic.

Season Pass 3 Kicks Off

Season Pass 3 holders get the first two cosmetic DLC packs today. The Space Wolves Champion Pack adds a Wolf Guard Champion skin for the Bulwark equipped with a unique shield and One-Handed Hammer. The Exorcists Cosmetic Pack includes six items inspired by the daemon hunters of the Imperium. Season Pass 3 bundles ten total cosmetic DLCs on Steam at $39.99 USD, giving players access to all packs as they release over the coming months.

Focus Entertainment has also shared a full Year 3 content roadmap with the community, teasing additional classes, weapons, Operation bosses, and a Chaos version of Siege Mode planned through the coming year. Space Marine 2 originally launched in September 2024 and has maintained a steady cadence of free and premium updates since.

Illustrated portrait of Lena Nakamura

Lena Nakamura begins every review with one question: what is this game doing that nobody else would attempt? She covers roguelikes, narrative experiments, striking art direction, and games willing to risk failure in pursuit of something original. Familiar ideas do not bother her, but safe execution does. If a game is beautiful, strange, and slightly impossible to explain, Lena is already interested.
