Valve has quietly reduced the price of the Steam Deck OLED by $50 across all regions, bringing the base 512GB model down to $499. The move, which went live on the Steam store overnight without any official announcement, appears to be timed ahead of the platform’s annual summer sale.
The price cut applies to both the 512GB and 1TB models. The 1TB version now sits at $599, down from $649. The original LCD models remain at their current price points.
Valve has not responded to requests for comment, but the timing is hard to ignore. The Steam Summer Sale is expected to kick off within the next two weeks, and a cheaper Steam Deck would be a natural way to drive hardware adoption alongside the software discounts.
It’s also worth noting that competitors have been making moves of their own. The ROG Ally X and Lenovo Legion Go 2 have both seen aggressive pricing in recent months, and the handheld PC market is more crowded than it was a year ago. A price drop from Valve keeps the Steam Deck competitive without requiring a hardware revision.
For existing Deck owners, the news is bittersweet. But for anyone who has been on the fence, this might be the push they needed. At $499, the Steam Deck OLED is hard to beat for portable PC gaming.
We’ll update this story if Valve makes the price change official.
