What are the LoL ranks? Sure, you can kill time playing normals or ARAMs in Riot’s MOBA, but there’s only one real way to challenge yourself: ranked. Unlocked at player level 30, ranked matches pit you against Summoners of a similar skill level, with each match being a true test of your prowess. Every player is assigned a specific rank, with wins seeing you gain LP and rise through the ranks. The ranked system itself, however, has its complexities. There are various tiers within the MOBA game, each featuring unique subdivisions; there’s the LP system and then MMR, which you have no doubt heard every League of Legends player moan about at some point. While the pros sit high in their Challenger castles, most non-Immortal Demon Kings sit across the lower tiers, generally ending up in either Silver or Gold, dreaming of being Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok.
