Intel Serpent Lake could be the codename of one of the most important CPU launches in a long time. Following the announcement last year of Intel joining forces with Nvidia to produce CPUs with integrated Nvidia graphics, we’re now starting to see rumors of the first products that could be born from this coupling of tech titans. And Titan really is the word, as the new CPU is rumored to be a variant of Intel’s Titan Lake design. What makes this so significant is that it will mean that, for the first time, Nvidia will have its GPU technology packaged alongside regular CPUs used in gaming laptops, handhelds, and compact PCs. Previously, you either needed a separate Nvidia graphics card for a PC or an extra Nvidia GPU for laptops/handhelds, if you wanted access to Nvidia graphics tech. Meanwhile, AMD has long had CPUs that integrate both its CPU and GPU tech. However, it’s no secret that AMD’s GPU tech lags behind that of Nvidia, and that, despite having the best gaming CPU options for desktop right now, AMD’s CPU tech still tends to fall behind Intel’s when it comes to power consumption for mobile devices. That makes this Intel/Nvidia combo potentially hugely disruptive to the industry.
