Update (9:00AM August 15th): Itch.io have now said that they “regret [their] choice of words” after saying that a Trans News Network report, quoting indie dev krispykat’s claim that both her SFW and NSFW games were deindexed from the storefront, was “full of misinformation.” As part of a lengthy Bluesky thread between them and Mira Lazine, the author of the TNN report, they added in response: “The developer is confused about the difference between ‘autocomplete’ and ‘indexing’. Their SFW pages remained indexed the whole time. We performed queries on our historical analytics data to confirm this was the case. We apologize for the developer’s confusion.”
The Itch account then stated in a separate reply: “We did not do any blanket admin restriction on pages targeting LBGTQIA creators as part of our NSFW adult content audit. Just because an individual page is deindexed does not mean a group of creators was targeted. We are working on adding much more transparency to indexing.”
